Akagera National Park Camping
Akagera National Park features a flat savannah grassland that makes it a perfect place for camping.
Akagera has three campsites that offer basic facilities for overnight stays within the park. They include Muyumbu, Shakani, and Mutamba campsites.
Tents are available for hire at the reception and the firewood are provided on-site and the visitors are also asked to bring their own camping supplies and equipment.
All the 3 campsites have toilets and washrooms. Please note that tap water here is not safe to drink and you advised to boil water before drinking it. You can also carry bottled water with you.
Shakani Akagera campsite;
- It is located on the shores of Lake Shakani where fishing in carried in the park.
- This camping site offers you an opportunity to see many hippos found in this area.
Mutamba Akagera Campsite
- This is located on the highest point within the entire park and it’s known for a large number of wild animals that gather there, and among are the big herds of the large elands as well as the roan antelopes.
- Camping in this area will also give you a closer meeting with the animals in Akagera National Park.
Muyumba Campsites
This campsite is found on the ridge and offers spectacular views over two lakes; Ihema and Shakani.
It is located close to the park at Kiyonza.
