Attractions in Akagera National Rwanda: The Park management conducted two Ariel counts of wildlife in the year 2010 and 2013 and the outcome indicated a positive trend in the rise of park’s population of wildlife. The Akagera National Park’s diverse landscapes support diverse habitat dwelling species including the Sitatunga antelope (Tragelaphus spekei) that is restricted to papyrus wetlands and the rare Shoebill Stork (Balaeniceps rex). The extensive savannah stretches support a range of grazers and the predators that survive on them. Animals like Elephants (Loxodonta africana), Topi (Damaliscus lunatus topi), the Cape buffalo (Syncerus caffer), Zebra (Equus quagga boehmi), the roan antelope (Hippotragus equines), defassa waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus defassa) and the eland (Taurotragus oryx) thrive in the park.
